2009 Montes 'Purple Angel' Carmenere - Colchagua Valley, Chile

92% Carmenere and 8% Petit Verdot from the Colchagua Valley, where half of the Carmenere came from the Apalta Estate, and half from the Archangel Estate in Marchigue. The grapes from Apalta provide elegance with chocolate, vanilla and tobacco aromas. The Petit Verdot (also from Apalta) adds tannic structure and wild blackberry flavors. The Carmenere from Marchigue adds potency with spicy hints. On the palate, it is full bodied, with considerable tannins that give grip and structure. Decant one hour before serving or cellar for up to 10 years. All the grapes were hand picked and sorted, the wine aged 18 months in new French oak barrels and was bottled without filtration.
